BUSI 830 DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS OVERVIEW This course explores case studies and the application of lean six sigma therein. Each Discussion Main Thread is designed to help you analyze, evaluate, and synthesize what you have learned from the reading as well as your own research from the literature and then apply that to a business issue. The application of a business solution is as unique and varied as there are business issues or challenges. Countless consulting agencies suggest they provide guaranteed solutions, but many times don’t have the methodologies to back them up. In the discussion main threads, you will serve as the consultant and discuss methodologies of how to apply each topic or type of case study to a specific issue. In the replies, consider yourself another consultant and while still searching for the best business solution, analyze/respond to your peer’s main thread (not restating your main thread stance, nor critiquing your peer, rather while stating your agreement or disagreement, support or refute their approach with supporting citations). You are writing (in a scholarly manner) to the reader, not to the writer, so omit the salutations, complimentary kudos, and ‘I totally agreed with you’-type comments. Do not confuse what is required in the Case Study Projects with what is required here which is more of a business solutions application mindset. (NOTE: Even if not officially wearing the title of ‘consultant’ in your organization, you may be asked to provide a business solution to an internal organizational issue. Regardless of titles, these scenarios are designed to get you thinking about how to apply the applicable case study to a certain type of issue.) INSTRUCTIONS Requirements for every Discussion Post You will submit your Main Thread no later than Thursday 11:59 p.m. (ET) of the assigned Module: Week. In the same week as your Main Thread, no later than Sunday 11:59 p.m. (ET), you will provide a Reply to at least one of your classmates. The instructor will provide a single assessment of your discussion posts each module – see rubric. In the thread for each short-answer discussion the student will post short answers to the prompted questions. The answers must demonstrate course-related knowledge and support their assertions with scholarly citations in the latest APA format. Minimum word count for all short answers cumulatively is 200 words. The minimum word count for Integrating Faith and Learning discussion is 600 words. For each thread the student must include a title block with your name, class title, date, and the discussion forum number; write the question number and the question title as a level one heading (e.g. D1.1 Variables) and then provide your response; use Level Two headings for multi part questions (e.g. D1.1 & D1.1.a, D1.1.b, etc.), and include a reference section. Which variables in the dataset are approximately normally distributed/scale? Which ones are ordered but not normal? 4.2.Do a stem-and-leaf plot for the same-sex parent’s height split by sex at birth. Discuss the plots. 4.3.Which variables are nominal? Run Frequencies for the nominal variables and other variables with fewer than five levels. Keep in mind that running the statistical tests is only the first half of the challenge; you must be able to clearly communicate your findings to the reader.
